I believe that all people are created equal and deserve the
opportunity to live their lives to the best of their ability. I
believe the current system widens the gap between rich and poor, both within and across nations, and therefore opposes this basic notion. In the US, financially prosperous families can choose to live in less polluted areas and purchase "untainted" food.
Unfortunately, the cost associated with these choices results in the poor inhabiting polluted environments they cannot afford to escape.
Although "eco-apartheid" is problematic for families in the US, it
is most evident when comparing rich and poor nations. The effects of our choices are felt by those who have not benefited from the industrialization that our use of fossil fuels has allowed us. I don't think it's fair that we continue to abuse these resources for our own conveniences and profit while poorer countries who do not benefit will foot the bill.

Investment in green infrastructure, combined with public education about reducing energy consumption, creates sustainable economic stimulation, environmental protection, reduced dependence on foreign resources, and a more equitable quality of life throughout the globe.

This is why I strongly support this movement.
