Tell Congress to Promote Key Solutions to Global Warming

President Bush continues to fall short on climate change. Monday night, in the State of the Union, he missed his last big chance to promote the key solutions to global warming - renewable energy and energy efficiency. Some of the most important incentives for those industries have expired and some other key supports are about to expire at the end of this year.

If they are not renewed by Congress shortly it will be a disaster for the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries and as a result a climate catastrophe.

As the Congress debates a economic stimulus package for the nation, lets take this opportunity to make it a Green Stimulus, that will help keep America's economy strong, while supporting investments in renewable energy and efficiency that promotes solutions to global warming and creates new green jobs.

Dear Senators, Representative,

I urge you to turn the proposed stimulus package green, by extending the renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credits in the economic stimulus package. These measures not only help keep our economy out of recession in the short term, but also make smart investments in longer-term, sustained economic prosperity by moving our nation towards a clean energy economy that provides employment opportunities for working Americans.

In addressing America's current economic difficulties, we have a unique opportunity to not only avoid a recession, but also to address one of the root causes of our current economic woes: high energy prices and our dependence on dirty and depleting fossil fuels. We have an opportunity to act boldly to strengthen American energy independence, invest in the clean, sustainable energy sources that will form the foundation of a new era of economic prosperity, and address global warming � all while putting hundreds of thousands of Americans to work.

The cost of inaction is also high. If we fail to take action, we will see layoffs and a decrease in much needed private capital flowing to the industry. The wind industry for example, believes that it will begin to experience a significant slow-down by late spring if the renewable production tax credit is not extended before then.

I urge you to extend the renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credits now.
