This is the chance of a lifetime.

I feel an overwhelming sense that I was born in one of the most pivotal moments in the course of human events. Consider: you are reading this entry from somewhere far, far away from me. I have never met you, and may not in my life. Yet, through precisely timed jolts of electricity and trillions of 1's and 0's, we can share our ideas, our passions, and our hope for a better world.

We are also alive at a time when the world is not simply being abused, but being torn apart piece by piece for the benefit of few, and the devestation of all.

We, together, are part of something much greater than just you or me. We are part of the age of change, communication, and thought. We are part of a silent creed sweeping our planet one mouth at a time: something must be done.

We cannot be content to simply let this message be repeated, but to carry it with us in everything we do, in all we are, and in everything that MUST be changed.

We have the most powerful tool of change within us.

"If you would convince a man that he does wrong, do right. Men will believe what they see." - Henry David Thoreau

I completely agree, "We are also alive at a time when the world is not simply being abused, but being torn apart piece by piece for the benefit of few, and the devestation of all." I can not live with myself knowing I live in an unjust, cruel, immoral corporate government, i want to see action toward change.
you talk about change what steps are you taking to better the world do you have any recommendations on positive organizations.

    @ Heather: :)

@letliveandlove: It's frustrating, isn't it? I know what you mean. The things we have to do aren't difficult, but getting people to do them are.

For my part, I try to live a greener lifestyle in the little things I do.

    - Carpooling
    - Recycling all plastic and paper
    - Re-using things like bags and bottles
    - Eating locally grown food
    - Turn up/down the thermostat at home a few degrees
    - Driving slower
    - Setting an example and not being afraid to speak up
    - Writing articles in the local newspaper or school paper
    - Never stop talking about it. It may annoy people, but eventually they'll start to understand how important it is.
    - Take shorter showers, and only have the water running when rinsing off
    - Shop smart: do research about electronics, food, and other products before buying.
    - Call your representatives! (I have their numbers programmed into my cell phone.)
    - Unplug appliances and electronics when not using them
    - Write on both sides of the paper.
    - Use public transportation

There are SO many things you can do to help the environment: the opportunities are around us every day.

About Me

alteru
Sioux Falls, SD USA

Student at O'Gorman High School

Living in the Midwest places me in an interesting vantage point regarding environmentalism, alternative lifestyles, and global politics.  My name is Joe Klein. I was born in St. Paul, MN, on November 19, 1990, but was raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I'm currently a junior in high school. I've been a photographer for approximately 2 years, a graphic designer for 5, and a creative freak since I could draw on walls.   I'm a vegetarian, politically non-partisan, and have a deep passion for art, music, philosophy, literature, nature, and health, among other things. At school I'm involved in band, drama, and journalism.   By South Dakotan terms, I've been called activist, hippie, liberal (yes, actually intended as a derogatory term), and numerous other things, largely due to my intense fervor for environmentalism, pacifism, and healthy lifestyles.   I enjoy reading, coffee (black please), conversations, recycling, and friendly debate.  Pet peeves include apathy, being told I don't get enough protein, and girls who act less intelligent than they really in order to impress the opposite sex.
