Well, I drafted a letter documenting the horror of clearcutting here in MS.  Guess what?  It was accepted as a column in this Sunday's Hattiesburg American Newspaper!  Hattiesburg American was surprisingly receptive.  My hope is that it will spark some buzz in our area and people won't be so easy to cut down a 200 year old tree as before.  Please read the article if you can.  Moreso, if you can write into the newspaper to further support this initiative...that would be better.

I desperately need your help here in the great state in MS.  One of the most amazing things about this state is that it is full of intact pine forest.  Unfortunately, they are clear cutting at astronomical rates (to accommodate housing) and destroying acres of pristine land.  Those that are in the "know" understand the grave effects that will result from this (loss of habitat, erosion...).  We also know that it is cost efficient to leave the old-growth trees on the property and build around them instead of pummeling through them.  This adds to curb appeal and helps the property sell faster.  Please, please, help me change this by writing to the local news papers and doing whatever else you can think of.
