There are many people who do not care about “saving the earth” because they think there is nothing for them to gain personally. They talk about why they need to protect bugs and other species! What they forget it that lot of these efforts help towards protecting our future generations.

It is a folly to assume that life on earth would come to an end with the end of the human race. There were several species on this planet before humans and several will likely continue to be present long after we are gone. In fact the absence of humans will allow the population of the surviving species to flourish and migrate into areas where humans had previously held them in check.

So if any of your friends are not motivated to take steps to protect the environment because it seems too altruistic, tell them to do it at least for the selfish reason of protecting the future of humans on this planet.
