- Stop the destructive and unsustainable logging of Canada's Boreal Forest
Dear Mr. Bernier,
I am writing to express my support for Greenpeace's action today and my concern regarding your company's purchases of wood chips from Abitibi-Consolidated and Bowater. Their logging practices in Canada's Boreal Forest are destructive and unsustainable.
I urge SFK Pulp to adopt an environmental policy that supports sustainable forestry as certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and limits logging in intact forest areas and caribou habitat. I hope that you will use your financial influence as a large customer of Abitibi-Consolidated and Bowater, to force them to end their destructive logging operations in the Boreal Forest.
Reckless logging practices such as massive clear-cutting are destroying the Boreal Forest last remaining intact forest areas. Considering that only 25% of the world's original forests remain, these practices are unacceptable.
SFK Pulp should consider its role in forest protection as a serious part of your regular business. Take the first step, and demand that Abitibi-Consolidated and Bowater end destructive logging.
Sincerely,
John P.
