Recycling is not enough

Gudiance Software is the leading manufacturer foresnic software. However, they might be one of the leaders of eco-mismanagement. The following are four cases of their harmful actions towards the environment.

Nancy Frankenfield (nancy.frankenfield@guidancesoftware.com) has a routine where she goes to the downstair cafeteria and gets a styrofoam cup full of soda. After she is done with that, she tosses the cup to the trash can. Instead of getting a soda can or recycleable bottle of soda, she uses a styrofoam cup. Not only that, she is a smoker with cancer. Don't you think that someone who has cancer should not smoke. Unfortunatley, her addiction is littering the environment with cigarette butts and poluting the air that is ever decreasing our oxygen and ozone.

Tony Truong (tony.truong@guidancesoftware.com) is another offender to environment as he is smoking buddies with Nancy Frankenfield. Sometimes smoking one to two cigarettes during his hourly break with Nancy, Tony smokes as much as two boxes of cigarettes a day. Not only that but he got rid of his Civic hybrid because it is not fast enough to commute 50 miles from Pasadena to Chino Hills. Instead, he drives a less than fuel efficient Honda S2000 because he wants to look good in front of his car enthusist freinds.

John Cung (john.cung@guidancesoftware.com) is another member of this triad of eco-terror. He hangs around Nancy and Tony especially for lunch. They mostly eat lunch out in restaurants in outlying areas where they eat from styrofoam and paper products that are eventually thrown out to the trash. Speaking of paper products, the company does not do anything to make him stop printing out 8 page reports for one defect from the product he test. A stack of those defects sits at his workstation and is as high as a chair. Imagine that his product has 400 defects and he prints them out. More than 3200 pages are printed out, that is more than 6 reams of paper that is printed out. How many trees did he kill in order to test defects out where he could have easily checked out the defects electronically on his computer. What does he do with these defects? It is not likely he will store them and it is more likely he will shred all those papers.

Olga Lavrova (olga.lavrova@guidancesoftware.com) takes her dog out for walks during her lunch. However, she does not pick up after her dog after it does #2 on the streets of Pasadena. Like many of her co-workers mentioned, she locks her computer instead of shutting down her computer, wasting energy. With this 4th of July weekend being 4 days long, think of all those computers running idlely and how much energy output they are producing. In a state where energy reserves are low, the company does not enforce their employees to save energy so that their computers can have a longer life expectacy.

It is a shame that a company does not take action against these eco-terriorist inside their own company. They are more likely to ignore these infractions against the environment in order to make more money. The needs to make more money outweighs the need of the environment in their minds. So what can eco-warriors do to make them see the light? Should one protest outside their corporate headquarters which does not contain these employees (they are located around Los Robles and Cordova)? Should each one send these offenders emails with large attachments to prevent their emails from working? Should their eco-crimes go unnoticed, without justice? Whatever needs to be done, these people are the examples of corporate greed, the environment needs our help.
