Bush Versus the Enviornment by Robert S. Devine

| More

I picked up this book with some birthday money and it was money well spent. Each chapter presents different Bush tactics regarding the enviornment and disects it, revealing all of the bullshit behind the PR.

I think what really stands out in my mind from it are the blatant manipulation on the Bush Regime's part, such as claiming credit for enviornmental acts set up during the Clinton administration, completely making up statistics in favor of the Bush administration and pouring loads of misinformation to the people to get their support. Also, the use of names such as Clear Skies Act to make him seem more green when in reality the Clear Skies Act is incredibly inferior to the Clean Air Act it replaced.

Even the acts he claims support the enviornment actually benefit big businesses, such as his attack on forest fires. Forest fires as a natural occurence actually help the ecosystem from becoming overgrown and thinning projects like the ones Bush is supporting, while beneficial in certain forest types and in moderation, are being done to excess and harming, not helping the forest. Not to mention that he gave free range to loggers to do thinning as they wished.

Also, his staff is absolutely unbelievable, one man who is in a position that requires a lot of enviornmental knowledge (I can't remember the position off of the top of my head) was quoted saying that he did not believe there was such a thing as an ecosystem and that the only benefit to protecting natural areas was for the recreation of humans. GAH!

This is x-posted to my own blog: Rants and Raves of a Tree Hugger, which contains info on enviornmental activism as well as human rights activism, so I encourage you to visit at http://variousrantsandraves.blogspot.com/

Keep your anger! It will keep you fighting those greedy, wealthy pigs who are destroying our earth. You are so right about Bush. It's amazing & scary that people re-elected him. I'm an old barely re-treaded hippie from the 60's, and my anger with the way the greedy giants have treated people and our only earth keeps me involved with organizations like Greenpeace. This involvement helps me channel my anger and keeps me from feeling helpless -- every now and then we win a few!

    You go, friend!

bush's so infuriating, really. this administration has got to go, but unfortunately we'll probably never see it replaced by someone in the green party... money pulls all the strings, unfortunately... not common sense.
