What else is man but an animal. Wait, animals kill for food or protection. Human beings kill animals for sport and greed. We also kill each other at an alarming rate for sport or covetness  and mostly fear. I watched a documentary about Arlington Cemetary and am  so sad at seeing the endless rows of gleaming white headstones which is continually growing so fast Arlington can't keep up with the demand. We have been killing animals and ourselves for thousands of years, probably ending several trillion lives by our bloody hands. Don't think you are not involved, because you are. Holding a sign in protest, or signing a petition is a microscopic effort in the vastness of history. (Yet it is a valiant effort, keep it up) We seem to have not yet come to the conclusion that mankind has killed and killed for so many centuries that it is the most prolific killing machine imaginable. We will continue, though, to make ourselves even better at killing, if we are still around?

In the year ????? I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old Earth can give
And he ain't put back nothin', whoa-oh

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

In the year ????If man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find ?????-Zager and Evans

EVERYDAY

manncer Every day I find more and more evidence of human actions that destroy not only the ecosystem, but ourselves. I have come to believe that eventually human beings will be extinct. For the planet, this would be good. "How can you say that?" You ask. Our belief in our superiority, mixed with our feeling we are immortal, has created a contrived arrogance, which allows us to slaughter trillions of members of other species with hardly a thought to the pain and suffering we cause and continue to cause.
It is an existential moment when we, as humans, realize we are mortal. This doesn't happen soon enough, however, usually it comes with age, then disappears into dementia or death. Remember when your mother and father told you that "you'll see, when you get older"? It's true. Maybe we don't "see" what our parents meant, but we see the truth of the world, if we pay attention.
Human beings are cruel and foolish as a species. We destroy for money and ignore the consequences. Things are going bad for this planet and us. I'd rather see humans survive to witness the glory of a planet in balance, but I fear it is too late.
