Post ChangeIt
ChangeIt was really amazing, truly inspiring. Not only was it great to hear some spectacular speakers like Lois Gibbs, but it was wonderful to be around a huge group of students who were all entusiastic and ready to learn new skills and change the world. I was impressed at how dedicated the students were to everything they were doing down in DC.
It was a great experience, one that instilled some hope in me. Now it's back to the internet organizing work out of NYC.
Yay Students
I'm getting ready to head down to Washington DC tomorrow (I work out of NY, from an ever-moving satellite office) to help out with the Grassroots team's very own ChangeIt. 100 students will be coming to the campus of Catholic University to get some top rate training from some of the best activists in the field (I'll just be a driver, an AV man, and whatever else those "best activists" can find for me to do). But I am really excited because this could be an amazing opportunity to get students from all over the coutnry deeply involved in environmental activism, and global warming specifically.
Global warming really does seem to be The Issue above all other issues and I'm hoping that talk of this Safe Climate Act isn't just idle, and that Congress may finally be waking up. It is a perfect time for all of these young, aspiring activists to descend on the Capital and to get active. When these students go back to their campuses in the fall, they'll be able to use what they learn next week to help start a real movement.
I'll report back later to tell how it went.
