hell in a handbasket

Everyday it's the same thing I go to school I come home. And everyday I see more and more how little the rest of my school cares. I went to the enviromental club last year and there were only 5 of us. This year the club was almost disbanded.     I look around and all i see are two-thouand people in denial, because they're far happier beleiving that none of it is really happening. Glovbal Warming , genetic engineering, whale hunting, poaching.      They all pretend it doesn't exist.      And meanwhile the icecaps shrink and the elephants die.     I've tried to talk to my friends, but even they are indifferent.

 WHY??????

Because either a parent or teacher or the news reporter or the governor say that it's all BS and there's nobody there to prove them wrong.    Greenpeace and other envirometal groups has failed to show my classmates the seriousness of the matter. No one ever came and gave a presentation on Conservation,None came to talk about poaching, GE, or nuclear hazards, and I get the feeling that nobody is going too. They gave the speech on safe sex and staying off drugs but none about the enviroment. So why should they beleive me.

I agree with everything you said. People don't know how to handle topics such as global warming and don't like to think about whales and gorillas so they don't. Instead, they focus on easier, sugar-coated topics like safe sex or staying off drugs. I mean, not that I'm saying everyone should be drug addicts, but why don't they teach us about the environment in science or whatever? I think it's sad how apathetic the world is.

Sorry to hear about all the apathy
in your school. I've noticd the poor responce to greenpeace campains
on the net.Considering all the people that can easily access all
    the enviromental groups online
it is plainly and painfully obvious
thay all they care about is themselvs. We keep trying and speaking out anyway.

About Me

Student at Spring Woods Senioir High

I grew up in arkansas but moved to texas when i was 11. i've always loved the outdoors and when I grow up i want to build a simple cabin where I can escape from the pressures and worries induced by modern society. My favorite autors are Henry David Thoreau and Carl Sagan. I'm a B or C average student and I'm fine with that. I just don't beleive in homework, if i did I would definetly be an A student. But through my life I've gained a more cynnical veiw of school and I've come to realize that it doesn'ty really matter what I do in school.I only write well when I'm interested in the subject other wise I rarely write at all. I also find many of the things my teachers try to force on dull and and don't beleive I will use much of it outside of school. Essentially I learned everything I consider to be important from the many books I've read or the few inspired teachers who understood the way I felt and met me halfway. I don't enjoy technology I dont own any videogames or even a computer. I go to the library to use one. My biggest dream is to learn to fly a Bi-plane and build my own dirigible. I hate organized sports like football or baseball. I'd much rather go hiking or mountain-biking.I beleive in the lost philophosy of Transcendentialism, I read about three books a week, and I only watch Animal planet and the science channel. If I have to get a job I'll either be a Pediatrician or sell vegetables and fruit on the side of the road.
