Saving Sharks

| More
scubadude57 We all know about saving seals, pandas, turtles, and other cute animals, but what about sharks? Without sharks, we would be in some serious trouble. 70% of the air we breathe comes from plankton, and without sharks the numbers of plankton feeders would explode. I recently watched a film called Sharkwater and it raised some good points. Most sharks are killed for their fins and most of the fins are made into shark fin soup. The fins provide texture in a soup flavored with chicken or pork broth. When sharks are finned all of their fins are cut off and they are then tossed overboard. To give you an idea of what this would feel like, imagine having all of your limbs cut off and then being tossed into the ocean to drown. Most people see sharks as a dangerous animal to be feared when you are more likely to be killed by a pig, or dog than a shark. The fact that the media only cares about shark attacks and record catches doesn,t help either. For all of you who don't know how you could help, writing a petition, organizing a protest, and contacting your congressmen are good ways to start. For more info go to savingsharks.com. We don't stand for people killing whales so why not sharks?
