3 elephants were killed within the last week in Sri Lanka. None of them were near cultivated land and posed no threat to villagers. None of them were tuskers...they were not killed for their Ivory, but simply for the sadistic pleasure of Villagers.

One was a baby, which had it's trunk cut off...WHILE IT WAS ALIVE!!!! Government officials stood by and watched while villagers crowded round and enjoyed watching her suffer for hours before she died. The crowd laughed and children took turns throwing stones as the poor creature thrashed around in agony.

A villager disguised a home made bomb as a vegetable and set it up at a location commonly visited by an elephant. It exploded as the young male elephant put it in its mouth....mutilating him and destroying most of his mouth, but not killing him. The elephant was then trapped so that he could not escape. For 8 weeks the animal was made an exhibit....villagers came to watch it suffer. Local vets did nothing. Some tourists implored a policemen to at least shoot it and put the elephant out of his misery, but he laughed, saying that the elephant "belonged" to the village so it was not his place to do anything.

Another elephant was caught in a trap, then shot 8 times in its abdomen (and not the head which would have killed it instantly). It was left to die slowly.

 Each time, the poor creature was surrounded by gawking laughing villagers....tormenting them in their final hours.

 Is this what humanity is? Not only murdering innocents...but enjoying it?
