Hi there, if anyone out there is from IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) then you would be glad to know that greenpeace will now have a place at our campus!  As the campus coordinator I will help any and all volunteers that want to make a difference to do just that for the following 2009-2010 school year.  Our campaign will be focused on global warming.  If anyone is interested in joining (please don't be shy) just drop me an email at jaredmitasky@gmail.com

Taking Nature Appreciation to a Whole New Level

| More
sonoftheoak A year ago, I had purchased a book on tracking and nature observation by Tom Brown.  The idea of tracking sounded like something to do on a day off or while hunting.  Little did I know that a year later I'd be addicted to one of the most rewarding nature activites that I know of.  Simply walking through the woods barefoot is enough to make my senses sharpen to a point that I never thought possible.  For those who havn't tried it, tracking isn't all about following animal tracks through the woods and finding an animal on the other side.  For me, tracking is an art in which you take evidence of life and piece together a story like an intricate collage.  After a while, you get a feel for life in general that one can often only achieve through meditation.  So I guess tracking can be seen as a form of meditation.  Often while in the woods, hours can fly by and I can forget about the difficulties of life for a while.  Not until I step out of the woods do my more civilized thoughts and senses come back to me.  Feeling a track (yes, I do physically feel all tracks and signs) makes a bond to whatever made it that is indescribable.  So, if you're in a tough time in life and have an hour or so and about $10 to spend, pick up a book on tracking.  You might just find solice and tranquility in nature like I have.

sonoftheoak Hi there, I'm hoping to use this blog to share some stories, views and calls for action to help save our forests and help the environment as a whole.

About Me

Student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Well, I"m a novice tracker and kinda new to nature activism on this scale.  I send email for defenders of wildlife every once in a while, but rarely to I get a chance to do real environmental work.  I'm a student of biology education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  I'm hoping to start a nature awareness and appreciation club as an after school activity for my students.  I've always loved the outdoors and it saddens me that a lot of that is going away due to both lack of compassion and awareness.  I'm hoping that joining up with greenpeace will give me a chance to make a dent in this very large-scale problem.span.jajahWrapper { font-size:1em; color:#B11196; text-decoration:underline; } a.jajahLink { color:#000000; text-decoration:none; } span.jajahInLink:hover { background-color:#B11196; }
