Gore gets it right, calls for carbon-free electricity

Now that's more like it:
WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Al Gore said on Thursday that Americans must abandon electricity generated by fossil fuels within a decade and rely on the sun, the winds and other environmentally friendly sources of power, or risk losing their national security as well as their creature comforts.

“The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk,” Mr. Gore said in a speech to an energy conference here. “The future of human civilization is at stake.”

Mr. Gore called for the kind of concerted national effort that enabled Americans to walk on the moon 39 years ago this month, just eight years after President John F. Kennedy famously embraced that goal. He said the goal of producing all of the nation’s electricity from “renewable energy and truly clean, carbon-free sources” within 10 years is not some farfetched vision, although he said it would require fundamental changes in political thinking and personal expectations.

“This goal is achievable, affordable and transformative,” Mr. Gore said in his remarks at the conference. “It represents a challenge to all Americans, in every walk of life — to our political leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, engineers, and to every citizen.”

As correct as he is I fear his message falls on the deaf ears of America.

I for one will be doing what I can do.

everyone can make a differance, but still, look at what Al Gore has done.George W. Bush Decided to convert over 50% of our energy to coal! When we get 500% of energy from solar and wind energy!

I agree.Unfortunitly and per norm I fear the "deaf ear" of most America will continue until the consequences affect them personally. I fear the selfishness of Americans almost more then the end result!

The "goal" has already been achieved. Have you ever heard of the Newman Energy Machine? If you search uTube for it, you will see Joseph Newman (and others) who have built his Newman Energy machine. It runs over 100,000 % efficiency. Meaning, you get more power out than you put in. One person on uTube actually runs the motor indefinitely on just a watch battery. It's been suppressed for years by big oil and power companies, but it is a proven technology. It is a magnetic motor that converts matter to energy (atoms in a copper coil to electricity). It can (and should) eliminate the use of fossil fuels entirely. Knowledge of it just needs to "get out".

Wow. It's official: Al Gore is
more radical than Greenpeace.

But now that Gore has broken the
taboo against setting honest
climate targets that could
actually solve the problem, I'm
sure that Greenpeace is going to
step up its campaign goals too.

You're probably just working to
update the website where the same
old boring targets are still
posted: an unambitious and nature
wrecking 25% reduction by 2020
and 80 by 2050.

Gore is now asking for more than
twice the stated Greenpeace
climate goals. That's what the
world's scientists say we need.

Surely Greenpeace is not trying to convince Congress to settle for less, right?

Right?

Any campaigners care to respond?

I am a mechanical engineer, and trust me when I say the Joseph Newman machine is not a perpetual motion machine. I have seen the videos, and what it is doing does not violate the laws of physics, and you can not get more energy out than what you put in. It is not converting matter into electricity. I would bet every penny I own that it is not a perpetual motion machine. The US Patent office denied him a patent for it, he contested it, so they did an independent study of it, and found that it is not a perpetual motion machine.

...I think we should step up to the plate and double Gore's request just to not be shown up.
