Working On Phase Two

| More
Last Friday we spoke to the principal of our high school about starting an envirnmental club. We had everything written down and were prepared for anything, or so we thought. It didn't go as well as planned. We got in there and started explainging the situation. I didn't do much of the talking and I thought everything was going well until the principal started asking questions. That's where things went downhill. We weren't as prepared as we thought and he found our loopholes. He was enthusiastic about the idea, but he had some thoughts. He wanted us to find another sponsor, even though we never mentioned ours. He also wanted us to come up with people and ideas before we started anything. And this is what we are now working on. We started a list in each English class to get people to sign up. We are still having sign ups, and so far on the senior list we have nine. We are also going to have an announcement for anyone that hasn't caught the announcement. Now all we need is ideas. I'm going to get working on that now. Hopefully I can get some kind of list going on.

Phase One Complete

We are on the way to getting something together in my community. I asked a friend if she would help me and she said she would. This is a big step because she is much more organized and can really get this idea moving. To start a school club we must first get the idea approved by the principal, but even before that we must have a teacher advisor. It basically means that we had to find a teacher that would supervise our meetings and keep us from doing anything illegal. Luckily, we found one. We first looked at the different science teachers, but they were all mostly involved in other activities or had some previous matter to attend to. We had to think of one of the new teachers that would perhaps be willing to get involved. Luckily we had a brand new spanish teacher this semester and she was a sweetheart. We approached her after school and explained what we wanted to happen. She was more than willing to help. Our next step is to meet with the school principal tomorrow morning. I can't think of any reason for him to be against this idea, but there are always reasons for our school to go against something. It doesn't matter though, if we can't get it together at school I'll start it outside of school with the same people. This is moving quicker than I thought possible.

Getting Started

| More
My community and the ones surrounding us aren't exactly the most up to date. We are a pretty secluded area and don't know much outside our walls. This is our biggest issue, I think. I've just recently become aware of the things that are happening around us and I found it utterly appalling. I was surprised and amazed and offended and angry and so many other emotions that I can't even describe. The biggets emotion was betrayal. I felt betrayed by my fellow human beings for doing these cruel things and the governments for not stopping them and the media for not pointing out these terrible acts. What I want to do more than anything right now is get people involved and make them aware. I'm trying to start a group or club or anything that will help me and my fellow activists to spread the word and stop these tragedies. The question is how to get started?
