Penguin Pride
Hi everyone! This is my first blog and penguins are on my mind. I'm sure penguins are on lots of peoples' minds, thanks largely to films like "Happy Feet", the documentary "March of the Penguins", and the upcoming, "Surf's Up" which seems extremely similar to "Happy Feet". This makes me wonder...It is a great thing that producers are making films that call attention to the suffering that befalls the cute creatures when the aliens (us) seize all the fish. I only hope that movie-goers are doing more than eating popcorn and quieting the young ones when they watch these films. I hope that little children tell their parents, "I want to save the penguins!" and that some lifelong love of saving, conserving, preserving nature is instilled.
Penguins and whales and polar bears are more than mascots for fads that Hollywood starts. It is more than that. "Free Willy" did alot for our beloved whales but not enough, as years after that movie, we are still fighting to protect them. However, we have come a long way and we must stay strong and get stronger to go further. May be idealistic of me, but perhaps one day, we will win the race.
"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leves" - John Muir.

Hi everyone! I'm Bianca and I'm entering my second year at AUP. I'm a comparative literature and economics major and nature is my haven! I hope to become an environmental lawyer or economist but I don't know exactly because it's hard to decide! In any case, appreciating and learning more about the natural world is priority and I want to do more to defend it! I'm currently working with a coalition that works to preserve trees by researching the environmental and economic pros of tree canopy cover. I love God, life, my family, and friends. I love to read, write, watch movies, sing...lots of other hobbies/interests(languages,photography,and cultures especially). I love yoga and runningI hope to travel more, photographing and writing about the outdoor beauty and horrible destruction that is taking place. Maybe someday we'll meet each other, taking part in some peaceful protest!
