Hi everyone! This is my first blog and penguins are on my mind. I'm sure penguins are on lots of peoples' minds, thanks largely to films like "Happy Feet", the documentary "March of the Penguins", and the upcoming, "Surf's Up" which seems extremely similar to "Happy Feet". This makes me wonder...It is a great thing that producers are making films that call attention to the suffering that befalls the cute creatures when the aliens (us) seize all the fish. I only hope that movie-goers are doing more than eating popcorn and quieting the young ones when they watch these films. I hope that little children tell their parents, "I want to save the penguins!" and that some lifelong love of saving, conserving, preserving nature is instilled. Penguins and whales and polar bears are more than mascots for fads that Hollywood starts. It is more than that. "Free Willy" did alot for our beloved whales but not enough, as years after that movie, we are still fighting to protect them. However, we have come a long way and we must stay strong and get stronger to go further. May be idealistic of me, but perhaps one day, we will win the race."Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leves" - John Muir.
