Activist Kit Summary: Kleercut Campaign Materials
Kleercut Campus Toolkit
Kleenex uses ancient forests to make a tissue that millions of people just throw away. Kleenex’s parent company, Kimberly-Clark, is the world’s largest tissue manufacture and sources virgin fiber from the Boreal forest of North America. In addition to Kleenex, Kimberly-Clark manufactures Scott, Viva, Cottonelle, Huggies, and Kotex brand products.
The Kleercut campaign is the hard-hitting international effort to protect the Boreal Forest from Kimberly-Clark. We want them to stop destroying ancient forests and dramatically increase the amount of recycled content in their products.
Considered the Amazon of the North, the Boreal forest accounts for 25% of the worlds remaining ancient forests and is the largest ancient forest left in North America. It stretches across the northern portion of Canada from eastern Alaska to the province of Newfoundland. Having evolved for more than 10,000 years, the Boreal is a diverse and awe-inspiring landscape of granite outcrops, lakes, rivers, and marshes interspersed with pine, spruce, fir and poplar forests. The Boreal is home to hundreds of wide-ranging wildlife species, including moose, caribou, lynx, bear and wolves. Eagles, hawks, owls, and nearly 50% of the other 700 North American bird species nest or breed in the forests and wetlands.
In order to stop Kimberly-Clark we need your help. The materials below should provide you the information you need to think globally and act locally to protect our last remaining ancient forests. If you have questions please contact students@sfo.greenpeace.org.
